Soft Mold and Hard Mold of Injection Mold
Soft mold means that the hardness of the mold core is below 44HRC,and the steel used im the mold core can meet the requirements without heat treatment after buying it.
Japanese steel NAK80 is one of the hardest pre-hardened steels,with a hardness of 38-41HRC,and its fine and uniform structure is suitable for polishing.The rough machining and finishing of the mold cavity mainly rely on CNC machining.Under the current technical conditions,the most suitable hardness of steel for machining is 38HRC.At this hardness,the durability of the cutting tool is also high,and the machining efficiency is also the highest.
 Machining can both generate stress and eliminate residual stress,which may cause immediate deformation of the workpiece,or deformation during subsequent heat treatment.Therefore,for large soft molds,it is recommended to vacuum the workpiece after rough machining to relieve stress.
 Hard mold means that the hardness is above 45HRC,and the steel used in the mold core needs to be heat treated after buying it,such as quenching and tempering,in order to meet the requirements of use.Such an injection mold is called a hard mold.For example,the inner module is made of steel such as H13 steel,420 steel,S7 steel and 1.2344.
 In addition to the large difference in the life of the mold,the soft mold and the hard mold generally have no effect on the product.
 There are many manufacturing processes for hard molds,and the cost of molds will increase by more than 30% compared with the same soft molds.The purpose of quenching is to greatly improve the strength hardness,wear resistance,fatigue strength and toughness of steel,so as to meet the long life requirements of molds.Since quenching will cause deformation of the workpiece,it is necessary to design a reserved amount of deformation.
 The typical processing technology of the hard mold core is: increase the machining allowance by 0.5mm in the three directions of the length,width and height of the mold core.It should be noted that the verticality tolerance of the blank in each direction can not be greater than 0.02;The pen marks the reference angle and the parts to be processed.
